Forgive the baseball analogy but as we age an important consideration for aging well is being able to adapt to the curves life throws at us. We try and control our lives because that control gives us some comfort that we can direct the outcome. But as hard as we try we can’t control everything nor should we try. I’m not suggesting that we just give up exercising and forget about a healthy lifestyle. Control what you can through diet and exercise to give yourself the best shot at a long health span. The curves will come none the less. How you respond makes all the difference. Life is impermanent, nothing stays the same. You can morn the loss but you must embrace the change and make the most out of it. Railing against life’s curveballs will only make the outcome worse. Adapt, be grateful and be open to what comes next. Remaining positive is important to successful aging. There is a direct link between negative thinking patterns and the development of health complications. Prepare yourself work towards being the best you can be and accept that the curve is coming. Be grateful that you are still up to bat.
