Aging brings with it the additional hazards of health related problems. As we get older it is more likely that an illness or other health problem will develop. It is imperative that older persons do all they can to maintain their wellness at peak levels in anticipation of the health troubles that may come along. Aging brings with it a reduction in immune system effectiveness along with strength declines which makes it more difficult to recover when health problems strike. The longer recovery time increases the risk of multiple problems developing and an inability to fully recover. The weakened state makes it more likely to have a catastrophic event terminating life or reducing quality of life. Resiliency is important. Less illness or recovery means less chance of more serious problems developing. Building resiliency requires constant vigilance while healthy. Eating right, getting adequate sleep, proper exercise in the right amounts and avoiding bad habits related to smoking and alcohol are all important ingredients in developing the long term strength to combat the hazards that aging inevitable brings. There is no amount of time promised but we can improve the chances of quality of the time we do have by building health resilience to stave off the risks of aging.
